About us

Dallas's repair shop on wheels

Dallas is built on freeways and toll roads, and most people here drive a lot of miles before lunch. When the car acts up, the usual drill of booking a shop, dropping it off and finding a ride can wreck a whole workday. Dallas Mobile Mechanic brings the repair to wherever the car is sitting.

We work in driveways in Lakewood and Oak Cliff, apartment lots in Uptown and Deep Ellum, office parks in Las Colinas and Plano, and neighborhoods from Frisco down to DeSoto. Your mechanic arrives in a stocked service vehicle with real shop tools, a diagnostic scanner and, most of the time, the part you need.

It all starts with a phone call. Tell us what the car is doing and a mechanic will ask the right questions, tell you what it likely needs and price the job before any work begins. If something else turns up along the way, we'll show you and wait for your go-ahead.

What we fix

Repairs we bring to your driveway

Most repairs that don't need a lift can be handled right where the vehicle is parked. Here's what Dallas drivers call us about most.

  1. Brake repair

Pads, rotors, calipers and brake fluid for cars, SUVs and pickups. Freeway stop-and-go and heavy trucks chew through brakes, so noise or a long pedal is worth a call.

  2. Battery testing and replacement

Texas summers wear batteries down and the first hard freeze finishes them off. We test the battery and charging system and replace a weak battery on the spot.

  3. A/C repair and recharge

When it's 100 outside, warm air from the vents isn't an option. We track down leaks, check the compressor and condenser and recharge the system properly.

  4. Emissions and check engine repairs

Check engine light on before your emissions test, or already failed? We find the cause, fix it on-site and tell you when the car is ready to retest.

  5. Starters and alternators

A click and no crank, a slow start or a battery light on the dash. We test, find the failed part and replace it without a tow.

  6. Cooling system and overheating

Radiators, water pumps, thermostats, hoses and fans that give out in August traffic, usually right when the temperature gauge matters most.

  7. Oil changes and maintenance

Oil and filter changes, fluid checks, filters, wipers and factory-scheduled maintenance, done in the driveway or at the office.

  8. After-hail checkups

Hail can crack lights, dent radiators and A/C condensers behind the grille and damage sensors. We check the mechanical side so you know what to tell your insurer.

  9. Belts and hoses

Worn serpentine belts and cracked or swollen hoses swapped out before they fail on the LBJ in rush hour.

  10. Suspension and steering

Shocks, struts, ball joints, tie rods and control arms worn down by potholes, construction zones and heavy pickups.

  11. No-start and electrical problems

Won't start, dies at lights or warning lights flickering? We trace electrical problems from the battery cables to relays, sensors and grounds.

  12. Pre-purchase inspections

Buying a used car or truck in DFW? We meet you at the vehicle and inspect it top to bottom, including for hail and flood damage, before you pay.

Not seeing your repair? Ask us about it. If it can be done safely on-site, we're on it.

Local know-how

What Dallas does to your car

North Texas weather swings from hail to triple digits to ice, sometimes in the same year. Here's what we see most around Dallas, and what to watch for.

Spring hail

Hail season peaks in the spring, and North Texas storms can be brutal. The June 13, 2012 hailstorm alone was first estimated at around $900 million in damage. Beyond the dents, hail cracks lights, damages radiators and A/C condensers, and breaks sensors.

Triple-digit summers

Dallas-Fort Worth set its record in 2011 with 71 days of 100 degrees or more. That kind of heat wears out batteries, pushes cooling systems to the edge and makes a weak A/C impossible to ignore.

Ice storms and cold snaps

Winter is usually mild, which is why it surprises people. In February 2021, DFW dropped to -2°F, the second-coldest reading ever recorded there. A freeze like that finds every tired battery, weak starter and worn tire in the city.

Freeways and the High Five

Dallas traffic stacks up on I-35E, US 75 and the LBJ, where the High Five interchange climbs about 12 stories above the ground. All that braking and idling wears brakes and transmissions faster than open-road miles.

Toll roads and long commutes

The Dallas North Tollway and the George Bush Turnpike make it easy to live far from work, and the miles pile up fast. Oil changes, tires and brakes come due sooner than you'd expect.

Trucks, SUVs and towing

This is pickup country. Heavier trucks and SUVs, especially the ones towing boats or trailers, go through brakes, tires and suspension parts faster and run their transmissions hotter.

Texas inspections

Texas dropped safety inspections. Dallas still tests emissions.

Since January 1, 2025, most personal cars and trucks in Texas no longer need a safety inspection to renew their registration. Instead, drivers pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee when they register. Commercial vehicles still get inspected.

Emissions testing didn't go away, though. Dallas County is one of 17 Texas counties that still require yearly emissions tests, along with Collin, Denton, Tarrant and the other surrounding DFW counties. A lit check engine light is the most common reason a car fails, and we can find and fix the cause before you test. Electric-only vehicles remain exempt.

The bigger change is that nobody looks at your brakes, tires or lights anymore unless you ask. The annual safety inspection used to catch worn brake pads, bald tires and burned-out bulbs. Now that's on you. A quick once-a-year check from a mechanic covers the same ground.

Car care calendar

A Dallas car-care calendar

North Texas runs on extremes. Matching your car care to the season heads off most of the breakdowns we see.

  1. March to May

    Spring

Hail and severe storm season. Park covered when storms are in the forecast, replace worn wipers and check your tires before the heavy rain.

  2. June to August

    Summer

Triple-digit heat. Test the battery, make sure the A/C blows cold and keep an eye on the temperature gauge in traffic.

  3. September to November

    Fall

The first cold fronts bring relief. It's a good time to catch up on brakes, belts and anything the summer heat wore out.

  4. December to February

    Winter

Mostly mild, with the occasional ice storm. Test the battery and check tire pressure before a cold snap, and stay off the roads when they ice over.

Mobile vs. shop

Mobile mechanic or repair shop?

The repair is usually the same. What changes is how much of your day goes with it.

FAQ

Questions Dallas drivers ask

The questions we hear most around Dallas, answered. Anything else, call us.

Call (214) 833-5628

Do you cover Plano, Frisco, Irving and the suburbs?

Yes. We work across the Dallas side of the Metroplex, including Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Irving, Garland, Mesquite, Carrollton and Grand Prairie. Let us know where the car is and we'll give you a time.

Does my car still need an inspection in Texas?

Most personal vehicles stopped needing a safety inspection on January 1, 2025. If your car is registered in Dallas County or another DFW emissions county, it still needs an emissions test, and a check engine light can make it fail.

Can you check my car after a hailstorm?

Yes. We look at the mechanical side: the radiator, A/C condenser, lights, sensors and cooling fan. Dents and glass go to a body shop or your insurer, and we'll tell you what we found so you can include it in your claim.

Do you work on pickups and SUVs?

Yes. Most of our work in Dallas is on everyday cars, SUVs and light-duty pickups, including brakes, batteries, A/C, starters and maintenance.

Can you come to my office or apartment complex?

Usually. We need a flat, safe spot with room to open the hood and doors. Some apartment communities have rules about repairs, so it's worth checking with the leasing office.

My car won't start after a cold snap. Can you help?

Yes. A hard freeze is often the last straw for a battery that the summer heat already weakened. We test it, check the starter and charging system and get you going in the driveway.

How soon can you get to me?

Same-day slots open up often, and morning calls have the best odds. It depends on the job, the parts and how far across the Metroplex you are.

How much does a mobile mechanic cost in Dallas?

It depends on your vehicle and the repair, and you'll get the price on the phone before we head out. You skip the tow, too. Anything extra we spot, we explain and quote before doing it.

What repairs can't be done on-site?

Anything that needs a lift or heavy equipment, like transmission rebuilds, internal engine work or frame repair. If that's your situation, we'll be upfront and help you find the right shop.

What are your hours?

We're available 7am to 7pm, every day of the week. Call (214) 833-5628 to book.
